My husband and I stayed for 9 nights in one of the apartments of this hotel. We are so glad we did, it was fantastic. Villabassa is a centrally located smaller town in the centre of a great ski region. If you don’t ski there is lots to do - winter hiking, tobogganing, visiting quaint towns and more. And so easy to get around by car. There is also a train a few minutes’ walk from the hotel that takes you directly to the lifts or other towns. Our room (Alpine suite) was very comfortable. Big bed, great (firm) mattress. Modern bathroom (no bathtub, which is a shame but an amazing shower with big shower head which was fantastic), good quality furnishings and finishing. Wonderful patio which I would imagine would be great in summer (it was below freezing but sunny while we were there). The only downside was the kitchen size. It was fairly small which made it hard to make dinners, but a great size for breakfast and snacks. But manageable. And so quiet and peaceful. Really lovely for relaxing.

The hotel is steps away from a bakery, some smaller grocery stores, and a few other restaurants. You should drive to other grocery stores for more ingredients but if you are in a pinch you can find what you need in town.

Barbara, our hostess, speaks amazing English. Also German and Italian. Always a friendly greeting and a smile. We had dinner on Christmas Eve and it was wonderful. Delicious and prepared with care. We felt truly welcome during our whole stay. We did not do the breakfast option (as we had the apartment so made our own) but I would imagine it would be great. For sure the new wellness area will be fantastic when done. Barbara showed us the renderings of what is to come, and it is amazing.

I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel. If you are looking for relaxation, a great home base, warmth and quiet this is the place for you!

Vitalhof Hirben was an excellent place to stay. They exceeded all of our expectations with friendly service, an amazing breakfast, and super cool apartments. I would recommend Niederdorf/ Villabassa and the Hirben to anyone visiting South Tyrol.
