The best Via ferratas in the Dolomites
Attention climbing enthusiasts! Discover the most spectacular Via ferratas in the Dolomites. From easy routes to challenging tours - there's something for everyone here. Just you and the mountains.
Toblinger Knoten - to the surveillance post of the Austrians in World War 1
Ascent via ferrata approx. 1 hour, difficulty B/C
The ascent leads from the Auronzo hut, over the Patern saddle and past the Drei Zinnen hut. The short via ferrata leads over vertical ladders to lofty heights to the bizarre-looking rocky summit, directly opposite the world-famous Three Peaks.
Via ferrata Lagazuoi - Kaiserjägersteig
Ascent via ferrata approx. 2.15 hours, difficulty A
During the First World War, the front line ran directly across the rocky massif of the Lagazuoi. Food, water and ammunition were once brought to the Lagazuoi via the Kaiserjägersteig. Today, the former connecting paths and tunnels allow for an exciting tour on a partially secured via ferrata over and through the mountain. The starting point is the Falzarego Pass.
Paternkofel - the viewing platform of the Three Peaks
Ascent via ferrata approx. 2.5 hours, difficulty B/C
The via ferrata on the Paternkofel is one of the most famous in the area. The ascent takes you through a pitch-black war tunnel, continuing through scree and rock bands and a steep summit flank to the highest point. If you want to extend the tour a little further, you can descend via the Schartenweg and make a great loop.
Fanes waterfalls - the ideal start for beginners
Ascent via ferrata approx. 1.5 hours, difficulty A/B
The via ferrata is suitable for everyone - from beginners to families. It offers a scenically impressive mix of hiking trail and via ferrata. The absolute highlight is the passage that leads directly behind the waterfall. The Cascaden via ferrata at the lower and upper Fanes waterfall are connected by a beautiful hiking trail.
Via Ferrata Galitzenklamm - an experience for young and old
Various short via ferrata routes of all levels of difficulty have been created in the Galitzenklamm adventure park. The gorge is also a worthwhile excursion destination for families, as it has a water trail and a large children's playground.
Via ferrata Filmoor
Ascent via ferrata approx. 1.5 hours, difficulty B/C
This interesting via ferrata already existed during the First World War and has been restored in recent years by Italian mountaineers and bears the name ‘Ferrata D'Ambros’. The airy ridge climb leads from the Filmoorhöhe (2,457 m) over impressive rock towers to grassy ridge tops - then down an iron ladder to two rock tunnels - then an exposed traverse to caverns with the wall book - from the final rock head another short descent via chimneys to the saddle in front of the Wildkarlegg (2,532 m). From there, the descent leads over a steep gravel slope down to the Oberer Stuckensee. Alternatively, you can choose to descend via the Porzescharte and Porzehütte. From there, head out of the valley through the Dorfertal valley to Obertilliach.
For each via ferrata you will need a climbing set, good mountain boots, a helmet, rain protection, a light rucksack, provisions and good maps.
